Character Information:

Name: Jonathan Peters

Alias: Poltergeist

Occupation: Adventurer

Age: 24

Height: 5’ 10”

Build: Muscular

Hair color/style: Brown and wavy

Eye color: Brown

Detailed personal description: Jonathan is the definition of an ordinary looking American male. He has very few distinguishing physical attributes, being of average height and weight. He keeps his hair a little longer in the front, letting it drape over his forehead, and shorter on the sides and in the back, but he has no compunction about changing it if needed. He doesn’t have any memorable marks or tattoos, and most people would be hard pressed to give a detailed description of him fifteen minutes after he left a room.

Jon shuns most jewelry; at the most he’ll have a watch on, an inexpensive Timex Ironman. He dresses for comfort and function, sticking to jeans and non-descript t-shirts or polos, the blander the better. He doesn’t have a uniform, as it would make him stick out on a mission. What he is doing, rather than maintaining a specified look dictates his attire.

Family: Jon's parents and younger brother still believe that Jon was abducted by strangers as a child, never suspecting the true nature of his disappearance. Although they have never given up hope of his return, Jon himself has very little memory of his parents (or anything about his life before the institute), and no idea that he has a brother.

Ability/Mutation: Psychokinesis or telekinesis, the proverbial mind over matter. Jonathan can manipulate any object without touching it, regardless of size, weight, or chemical makeup. His ability is limited to objects that he is aware of, but those objects do not have to be in the immediate vicinity. Tests conducted at the Institute proved that he could watch an object located five miles away from his position on a monitor and manipulate it successfully. This level of control and distance is a recent achievement though, and has only been accomplished through several years of daily practice.

Jon is extremely comfortable with his ability and uses it daily in private company. On a mission however he will become self-aware and limit his use to the tasks at hand. He has discovered over time that he has better control when he envisions a “ghost” tool to focus his power. Hands that only he can see lift objects and move them, steel walls that don’t exist form around him to shield away debris. His power is not dependent on these visions, but they occur regardless.

As part of his initial creation Jonathan has an advanced immune system. He is not susceptible to any known disease, and his body can actively fight off new strands. He has no conscious awareness of this ability, as it is a normal function of his body.

Weaknesses: Outside of his immunity to disease, Jonathan has all of the normal human weaknesses.

Personality: Jonathan Peters is a trained strategist, his mind is almost always puzzling out current events or situations as he attempts to determine what moves are being made in the world chess game. He’s subtle by habit and design, and goes out of his way to avoid drawing attention to himself until he wants to be noticed.

His entire life has been centered around, and dictated by the Institute. His access to the world outside of the Institute was strictly controlled and monitored by the personnel at the Institute, because of this he is extremely curious about things that most people take for granted. He’s never eaten at McDonald’s, or gone to Starbucks for a Carmel Macchiato. Due to this he knows what they are, and what to expect at either establishment, but he’s never actually set a foot inside their doors.

Jonathan does have one unexpected trait, he’s a thrill seeker. This is most evident when he’s given the keys to a car. The faster he’s going, the better he likes it. This habit completely baffles his handlers at the Institute as it flies against all of his training concerning caution and planning.

History: Jonathan doesn’t remember that he was born in Boston, Massachusetts to two loving, if financially strapped parents. His parents were PhD students at Northeastern University when they signed up to participate in a research project for The Institute of Childhood Development. The project involved the testing of pre-natal pharmaceuticals designed to enhance the human immune system. Both the mother and father were given a drug regiment before they attempted to become pregnant. The regiment was followed until pregnancy was confirmed, then the mother began another regiment of enhancers. The results would produce a child that born with immunities to most known diseases as well as a more aggressive immune system designed to fight off unknown diseases.

What Jonathan’s parents didn’t know was that the Institute’s primary function was not the enhancement of the human immune system. The Institute was in the business of creating man made mutants. Jonathan’s parents were selected as part of an experiment to create a human with an x-gene for telekinesis. Two years after he was born, Jonathan was kidnapped from the University’s day care center. A search was conducted but little to no evidence regarding the incident was found, the boy simply vanished from the grounds. His kidnapping was placed in the unsolved case folder after six months of no progress. His parents were devastated and only reluctantly started to move on after he had been missing for a year.

Jonathan’s memories of his parents have clouded since his kidnapping. He knows he has parents somewhere, but he isn’t sure where they lived or who they are. The Institute fabricated a story that they’ve reinforced throughout his childhood; his parents had become frightened of him and his manifesting power. He was taken into their care to help him with his unique abilities.

Jonathan’s ability did in fact manifest around the age of two, much younger than most “natural” mutants. The Institute had been monitoring their home and noticed the signs of his manifestation before his parents did, soon after they had him in hand. At that moment his training began. His first years at the Institute were spent monitoring and analyzing the changes occurring within him. They began teaching him how to control his power almost immediately to prevent him from running wild.

When he was six school classes began, the curriculum mimicking that of a normal kindergarten class but with an additional focus on his ability. From there he progressed through years of individualized studies. His education was personal and intense, covering a wide gamut of subjects at first before narrowing down to military studies and strategies. He learned the details of various military campaigns from Gustavus Adolphus to Erwin Rommel, Genghis Khan to Robert E. Lee their successes and their failures. The knowledge he gain was put to use in simulations designed to expand his capabilities and to encourage him to use his powers to his advantage.

At thirteen Jon was transferred to a new facility, there he met Adrian Marcato, the firestarter. Like Jon, Adrian had spent his childhood in the care of the Institute. The two boys began taking classes together, as well as training together. Learning to use not only their mutant abilities, but also their combined knowledge sets to run through the simulations the Institute set up.

Shortly after Adrian’s arrival the field trips began. Short jaunts into Baltimore, the boys had begun their education on life in America, follow up for the television shows they were allowed to watch in the evenings. The trips only solidified Jon’s desire to learn more, as well as stressing how much he didn’t know about the world outside the walls of the Institute’s buildings.

The training intensified and current event scenarios were added. More of the situations involved opposition forces with mutant troops, as well as operation against both human and mutant terrorists. Both Jon and Adrian had been assigned codenames, Jon was now known as Poltergeist and Adrian was Shaitan.

Throughout the new training Jon has been harboring mixed feelings over the simulations. The pattern is evident involving one central government employing small numbers of diversified troops against both large and small mixed oppositions. The Institute never provides extensive political backgrounds on the scenarios, preferring to stick with the immediate task at hand. Jon has noticed though that many of their assignments are reworks of past events, or incidents that have occurred with the last month.

In addition to the simulations Jon and Adrian have been given special ops assignments in and around Baltimore. These jobs have all been either reconnaissance or personnel tracking missions. In all cases they have successfully completed their missions without incident, until they were assigned the task of locating a runaway subject – one Kurt Wagner.

The boys were sent to New York to track the teleporting mutant not long after he escaped from an Institute run research laboratory. As part of their search they came into contact with Marinda Nightingale aka Tinkerbell, a known member of Magneto’s Brotherhood. It was through this contact that Jon and Adrian were finally able to escape the Institute’s grasp. Requesting Erik Lensherr’s assistance came with it’s own price as the boys are now indebted to him, as such Jon has joined the ranks of the Brotherhood. For now.
