3/12/08 Finally finally fixed the Salem Center description, yes I am that lazy. Added a new forum for flashback threads, and added a new affiliate, Apothesis Rising.

Bold new look, same great taste.

Happy news--we finally got our spam issue fixed! Account activation is back to user-approval. We also have a new adoption...Pyro is going up for grabs. His player leaves behind a good movie-verse version to pick up if you're interested.

I know, I skipped our third birthday announcement, but it was a treasured anniversary. As if in celebration, DEM has lately had a massive influx of spammers, and so far we've taken the measure of making account activation by admin-approval only. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this causes, but I will promise activation within 24 hours, usually much less. It will speed things up if you shoot an email to admin@demrp.com to let us know this is a valid account. Also, we've begun a major action storyline, the first Sentinel attack, and the ripples will be felt in game for a while. The Brotherhood is in the wings for a revival following this, and there is an opening for Brotherhood characters...ask me for details.

Two new characters up for adoption, some other character shakeups have happened, and we have some new faces on the board. Annnnd, we are coming up on our third anniversary. It's hard to believe it's been this long. I'm also on the lookout for a new board design, but I haven't found anything that seems quite like us. But hopefully soon we'll see a new look!

Long time no talk. In that space, Deus Ex Machina has turned a whole TWO YEARS. It's hard to believe we've been going this long. Seems like only yesterday I was trying to get this off the ground. I'm doing some mild site updating, have added an essay about grading bios in the last few weeks, as promised. We've got a new storyline in the works, and lots of characters still available.

Kind of hectic late, and I'm overdue for all sorts of updates, but things are improving. We added a new affiliate this week, Evolution Unbound, and we've gotten a new player in the meantime. I'm close to completing an essay, working on getting the character list up to date, and updating the storyline material. Hopefully we'll be ship-shape by mid-April. Thanks for the patience.

Been a little while since an update. Lately, DEM has killed off the reservation process. We're going to keep an open first-come, first-served policy with our bios. It's really a process for a larger board with more traffic, and we pride ourselves on the intimacy of our board. We do ask that when joining DEM, you let a moderator know what you're up to so that your handle isn't deleted as junk--we still get that from time to time.

We've had a rash of people registering on DEM with no apparent intention to play. We have a no lurker policy, but it has been informal up until now. So we've enacted a new rule - upon registering, the intention to post a bio for a canon or OC character must be announced in the Reservation forum. If not, we'll delete the username within 24 hours.

At the end of May/beginning of June, ezBoard (where DEM was based), was hacked. The site crashed, and whoever did the dirty deed also broke into the servers where ezBoard stored their backups. Yes, that's right, they stored their backups on obviously-hackable servers. It was hours without service before ezBoard began answering questions, partly because the site was so completely crashed they couldn't communicate with their customers. Board admins discovered, as the site came back up, that huge amounts of data were missing. DEM lost 90% of its data. We waited patiently three weeks while ezBoard's staff promised restoral processes. At the end of this 'restoral' process, most boards were still lacking huge amounts of data, and specifically, DEM had nothing restored. During this time period, ezBoard's staff was first defensive, then petulant, and refused to take responsibility for the practices that allowed this to happen. We were 'compensated' for our down time by being rewarded a few extra weeks of gold status (the pay service that you can purchase to keep ads off your board and get a few bonus features). We had toyed with moving off ezBoard before but decided it would be too much work considering our archives. Since the crash wiped out our archives, we had nothing tying us to ezBoard. We moved offsite and recommend that any user who values the time and effort they put into their boards to do the same. Here we have ability to do our own backups and don't have to worry that we will be treated disrespectfully by our hosting provider. So here we are, same great game, slightly new look, much improved service. Welcome to DEMRP.com!
